Microsoft have unveiled a new user interface for their Office suite of products.

There is a new look and feel, which is quite pleasing to the eye. But more importantly, a lot of time an effort has been spent to improve the usability of these “powerful authoring applications”.

I’m very positive about it. And interestingly, Microsoft are not prescribing that developers use the same user interface for their applications - they say there is nothing wrong with menus and tool bars for most apps. The reason they have gone further than menus and tool bars is because of the complexity of the applications. No doubt that won’t stop everyone from imitating it even for simple applications. And I’m sure there is probably a windows skin being made right now.
